Terms of Use
Last updated October 6, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Justin Giovinco, who runs Scrounge. By creating an account or using Scrounge, you agree to them. Please read the allergy section closely.
Who can use Scrounge
You must be 13 or older. If you're under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree to these terms for you.
Your account
Your account is yours. Keep your password private and use a strong one. You're responsible for what happens in your account. If you think someone else has used it, change your password and email us.
Anyone you invite to your household can see and change the household's pantry, shopping list, saved recipes, stores, allergies, and diet. Only invite people you trust.
Acceptable use
Please don't:
- break the law, or use Scrounge to harm, harass, or deceive anyone;
- try to get into accounts or households that aren't yours, or to guess invite codes;
- overload, attack, scrape, or reverse engineer the service, or get around its limits;
- upload anything you don't have the right to share, or photos of people.
Recipes
Scrounge finds recipes on other people's websites and links to them. Scrounge does not write, test, or check these recipes, and their authors and websites are responsible for them. Ingredient matches, swap ideas, difficulty, and summaries are suggestions made by software, sometimes with AI, and can be wrong.
Allergies and diet: an aid, never a guarantee
The allergy and diet filters help you avoid foods, but they can miss things. They are an aid, never a guarantee.
As the app says: Scrounge hides recipes whose ingredient lists include these. It can't see inside packaged ingredients or a recipe's instructions. Always check the recipe and product labels yourself.
An allergen you type in yourself only matches foods with that word in their name. For example, a typed allergen won't catch a sauce or packaged food that contains it under another name.
Always read the full recipe and every product label before cooking or eating, especially for allergies. If an allergy is serious, rely on your own checks and your doctor's advice, not on Scrounge.
Stores, aisles, and prices
Aisle locations, store links, and any price information come from your household or from store websites. They may be out of date or wrong.
Your content
What you put into Scrounge (items, lists, notes, photos) stays yours. You let us store and process it only to run Scrounge for you and your household, as described in the Privacy Policy.
The service is provided as is
Scrounge is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including that it will be accurate, safe for any diet, uninterrupted, or free of errors. Features may change or stop.
Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Justin Giovinco is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any illness, allergic reaction, injury, or loss that comes from using Scrounge, recipes found through it, or its filters. If any liability can't be excluded, it is limited to the greater of what you paid for Scrounge in the last 12 months or $50. Some places don't allow these limits, so they may not all apply to you.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time in the app (see Delete your account). We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts the service or other people at risk. We may also end the service, and will try to give notice first.
Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, USA, without regard to conflict of laws rules.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. We'll change the date at the top, and for important changes we'll tell you in the app or by email before they take effect. If you keep using Scrounge after that, you agree to the new terms.
